Are the walking poor, hence, merely afflicted with social anxiety? Merely …. the condition could be more severe than a mere condition. It is this social anxiety which comes out, clearly, in group settings which may prohibit the walking poor from entering the legitimate workforce. Most workplaces are a stomping ground for individuals who seem to be happy at work; if they are not happy to be at work, their façades are extremely effective and believable. But even the walking poor, when employed, maintain a poker face of contentment, except when confronted with meetings, which are, most always, nothing but the greatest waste of time, and meetings are also social situations. They maintain poker faces when ably employed for if this is not the case, others will approach them to demand what their troubles are, and as per normal, the walking poor do not wish to draw attention to themselves, and they certainly desire to not run into the pheromones of another of their kind.

The end of a workday for the walking poor comes with exhaustion, for the façade of contentment requires an excess of energy. But the walking poor will sometimes be faced with forced employment …. for example, when a doctor has stated that he will limit one’s sick leave and attempting to live off unemployment benefits could well backfire: one’s former employer may be obliged to take one back when one has been on sick leave, but this may not be the case when one discovers that one is unable to live off unemployment benefits – moving into the unemployed class means, effectively (and realistically), that one has resigned from one’s post.

Hence, walking poor or not, work is sometimes necessary. In working, putting on a façade, one risks believing the façade to be reality, hence, leaving the walking poor class for good. This is the most dire of all outcomes, for in leaving one’s class, one loses one’s identity. One’s class is one, and one is the essence of one’s class. The walking poor, being unable to intermingle, do not look out for their brethren. If the walking poor class lose one of their compatriots, it is certain that another will come to take the evacuated place. No tears are wept at the loss of a compatriot: the more moving out of the class, the more who can join the ranks.

But the walking poor lives off the money of tax payers. The walking poor, hence, cannot reach excessive numbers. It is a wondrous existence, to be truly walking poor: many will never experience this joyous state. Those are the individuals who take pleasure in working, or else make out that they are taking pleasure in their work, and truly believe that this is the case, even should they be lying to themselves. The fact that there cannot be excessive numbers of the walking poor, living the lifestyle of the walking poor, at any time is largely the reason why, sometimes, certain members of the class are forced to return to work, even should this return be only temporary.
